Eikostate 08/26/2010

From Barcelona, Spain comes the Metal explosion Eikostate, formerly known as After Feed-Back (well known amongst the Spanish Metal scene.)  With a new name, came new band members, and a new sound, that combines their signature metal with oriental folklore elements.  They self-produced their first album Tribute To Perseverance, which was mixed by Drew Mazurek (HIM, Mindset, Sinch) who says, "Eikostate creates an awesome blend of cultures that will stay with you forever."

SG: Tell us a bit about how the band started.
Eikostate started a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...The thing is that David, Eloi and Roger were playing in another band called After Feed-Back. As everything has its end, the band was broke up and it was in that moment when we decided to start a new project. Something that we would have never listened before. Initially, the new band was complete (with other formerly members), though we hadn't name and we were still looking for a new and fresh sound to our ears. After a few months we named the band and the sound was starting to taking shape. At that time, two members left the band and we were looking for a new drummer. After testing some, Roger, who was the bass player at the time encouraged himself to play drums and we asked to David's brother (Luís) if he wanted to join the band. He was playing the guitar in other bands, and he agreed to join Eikostate as a bassist right away. The band was again complete, and we started to rehearse and compose. Our hard work turned into what we are now: a mix of loud rock and Japanese instruments which is ready to rock everyone's ears!

SG: What are your musical influences?
We can´t tell if there's any big musical influence over the band.Obviously, all of us have different musical tastes that brings something unique and personal to the band. Influences comes from everywhere... Some guys from Catalonia singing in english and messing around with some Japanese instruments... hahaha  We try to be open to all that comes to us.When we build a song... we don't think too much, we just play !

SG:  What record are you currently working on and are you touring at the moment, if so, where?
We don´t have any planned tour at the moment, but we are doing some sporadic concerts, writing new material and preparing the releasing of our first album "Tribute to Perseverance.” Hopefully we´ll do a presentation tour when the album comes out.

SG: Any plans to be back in the States in the future?
We don't have any planned tour in the States for the moment, but we hope to come really soon...

SG: Do your songs have a theme/message to them ?
Our songs talk about many different things  always from a personal view. There´s no particular message to them. Eikostate is not carrying any flag, we´re not a representative band of any movement or ideal. We´re worried about a lot of different things, environment problems, relationship experiences, personal feelings to mention some.

SG: What has inspired the content of the music?
Inspiration comes from everywhere as each member of the band contributes in the music. We´re different individuals with different tastes, with different feelings, different ideals...For example " A life less painful" came up from a real story based in a  friend of ours, "Selfish Deconstruction" is about our wasted environment and how thanks to our governments incompetence and corruption our planet is immersed in a final countdown...Each instrument in Eikostate has a difference influence which makes our music grow in a very unique way.
